January 2025
Driving innovation and sustainability

The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) has rounded up the top 14 trends shaping sustainable solutions in the built environment in their latest report.

Through the work of the UKGBC’s Solutions & Innovation Advisory panel and other innovation-focused UKGBC members, their market research and analysis has provided valuable insights and recommendations based on key drivers and trends in the UK's built environment.

Eliot Powell, Sustainability Consultant at Troup Bywaters + Anders LLP and member of the UKGBC'S Solutions & Innovation Advisory panel has worked closely with fellow future leaders from a range of sub-sectors and disciplines to provide knowledge and inform insights in this report.

Reflecting on 2024, the report summarises a range of sustainable solutions from innovative new platforms and materials to transformative business models and processes that are driving innovation in the built environment.

As the industry strives to cut emissions nearly in half by 2030 and decarbonise completely by 2050, it requires not only innovation in technology, business models, and operations, but also the more strategic and widespread implementation of existing sustainable solutions.

The previous year has highlighted the importance of creating the right conditions for scaling and deploying these solutions effectively.
