Every year on 23rd June, the world unites to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day (INWED). This global campaign recognises the remarkable achievements of women in engineering, encourages diversity and inclusion within the profession, and inspires young girls to pursue careers in this dynamic field.
INWED serves as a reminder of the contributions made by female engineers worldwide and we’re marking the occasion by sharing some of the initiatives we’re undertaking as a business to #MakeSafetySeen – the theme of this year’s campaign.
In response to the recent changes and requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022, we’ll be hosting our first Technical Week themed around the topic of ‘safety’ which is the brainchild of our Future Leaders cohort, made up of 44% females.
Taking place in July, the ‘golden thread’ of our week is a Fire Safety national roadshow, where we will deliver presentations and workshops on the topics around our role in fire safety design, our increased focus on competence and how we will all rise to the challenge of a newly regulated industry.
Part of our Growing People mission remains to increase our work experience and STEM activities, encouraging girls to participate as much as possible; to have 35% of our apprenticeship scheme as female; and to foster an inclusive culture where our people lead the way in making safety seen.
